About Hanukkah
Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of lights, commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem and the miracle of the oil that burned for eight nights. In 2026, Hanukkah begins at sundown on 5 December and continues through 13 December, celebrated with candle lighting, prayers, games, and traditional foods.
The 🕎 Menorah is the centrepiece of Hanukkah celebrations, with one candle lit on each of the eight nights plus the shamash (helper candle). The menorah represents the miracle of the temple oil and the enduring light of faith. 🕯️ Candle symbolises each individual flame that illuminates homes and synagogues.
✡️ Star of david represents the Jewish identity and heritage at the heart of Hanukkah. The festival is a time of family gatherings, gift-giving, and traditional foods like latkes and sufganiyot, celebrating the triumph of light over darkness and faith over oppression.
