About Nowruz
Nowruz is the Persian New Year, celebrated on or around 20 March to mark the spring equinox and the beginning of the new year in the Iranian calendar. Observed by more than 300 million people across Iran, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and diaspora communities worldwide, Nowruz is one of the oldest continuously celebrated holidays in human history.
The Haft-sin table is central to Nowruz traditions, featuring seven symbolic items beginning with the letter S. 🌱 Seedling represents rebirth and new growth, 🍎 Red apple symbolises beauty, 🥚 Egg represents fertility, and 🐟 Fish symbolises life. 🪞 Mirror reflects on the past year and the future ahead.
Nowruz celebrations include 🔥 Fire jumping on Chaharshanbe Suri (the Tuesday night before Nowruz), symbolising the burning away of the old year's troubles. 🌸 Cherry blossom captures the beauty of spring's arrival that is inseparable from the Nowruz spirit.
